Assembling Material Boards
Why do we need them?
Constructing a clear picture of the space you want is essential in the pursuit of a well executed interior project. Here at VA Studio, we firmly believe that the use of flatlays and material boards hold a critical place in achieving this, regardless of the typology.
Not only are they fun to put together, but can in fact be incredibly efficient in providing a holistic approach to design when implemented in the early stages of tackling the brief.
They act as a tangible guideline to prevent creative ideas veering too far off from what has been acknowledged and agreed upon, which can, in the long run, shorten the timeline by avoiding any unnecessary side-tracking. That’s not to say that you can’t explore different ideas and try new options, but rather a necessary tool to drive and manage the process from beginning to end in a methodical and strategic manner.
These visual and sensory tools serve as conduits for translating abstract concepts and ideas into tangible, cohesive realities, helping designers experiment with the aesthetics and elements that will eventually grace the space. They also aid in shaping the end result by gradually pulling together an overall theme and big picture direction for how we and our clients envision the space to be.
A tactile canvas where textures, fabrics, finishes, and colors are thoughtfully collaged allows for a comprehensive examination of how different elements harmonize and interact together, guiding the selection of materials that will not only be visually pleasing but also resonate with the desired mood and function of the space.

In essence, they are a vital component of the building blocks for achieving the desired aesthetics and feel of a space, and if handled correctly, can shorten the timespan needed in the design consultancy phase of a project.
